Boardwalks and waterfronts

The Cote d'Azur is, among other things, a true walker's paradise. For those who prefer to take in the sights on foot, here are some picture-worthy walkways and waterfronts to include in your itinerary.

Promenade des Anglais

Sandwiched between the street and the rocky beach, this bustling promenade is one of Nice's central landmarks. Not only will you get a lovely view of the Baie des Anges here, you'll get a good dose of the local French scene too. Parents do take note: topless sunbathers are a common sight.

Promenade Le Corbusier

Do not be fooled by this unassuming path. Located along the beautiful waters of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, the track takes you over chalk cliffs overgrown with local vegetation before bringing you to the late Le Corbusier's remarkable work of micro-architecture - the Cabanon Le Corbusier.

Quai Napoléon III

This long boardwalk goes way out into the sea! Visitors who walk down the entire length of the pier will be rewarded with a view of Menton's hilly landscape, the Italian mountains in the distance, and of course, the fleet of luxury vessels lining the quay. If you love art, you can also stop by the little Jean Cocteau museum that's on the port itself.

La Napoule-Mandelieu

The tranquil sea-side village of La Napoule has a lovely waterfront that still maintains its original charm. That means, no high-rise tourist resorts, holiday yachts nor overcrowding. If long walks by the dock, picnicking on the beach, surfing, and soaking in the sun are your idea of a perfect holiday, then this is the place for you.

St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat

Walkers will truly be spoilt for choice at St-Jean. This popular vacation spot is home to numerous walkways. You might find the signposts confusing though, so it's best to plan your route first at the tourist office (59, avenue Denis-Séméria). St-Jean also boasts a luxurious marina and many different beaches along its coast. So that's plenty of beautiful scenery and interesting sights for you!

Most of the above-mentioned trails are actually tourist attractions by themselves. So, even if you're not into walking, just take a stroll down one of these picturesque paths. You'd be surprised how much fun it'll prove to be!
