Monaco Restaurants
Monaco is not known for its local cuisine like nearby France and Italy are, but it is nevertheless an excellent place to go for a high-quality meal, especially one that highlights the cuisines of these neighbor countries.
Bar et Boeuf
If anyone knows French food, it's superstar Alain Ducasse, who has done it again at this restaurant opened by (but not supervised by) Ducasse. French classics like bar (sea bass) with braised celery or an Italian-French fusion dish of beef tournedos with truffles and foie gras make this one of the best places to get a meal in Monaco... provided you have the budget for it.
Le Louis XV
For the best of real Riviera cooking, look no further than Le Louis XV, also owned by superstar Ducasse. Here, you'll find grilled pigeon, bacalao or truffles on just about anything you can think of, as well as some of the most attentive waitstaff on this side of the Atlantic. The restaurant is inside the Hôtel de Paris, so consider staying at this lavish locale to really make your trip to Monaco special.
Pizzeria Monegasque
While Monaco may be closer to its French neighbors than its Italian ones in terms of language, as far as cuisine is concerned, you can just as easily find top quality Italian food, like at this luxury pizzeria with 10 different kinds of pizza as well as fish and meat on the menu. This pizzeria is a favorite amongst locals, and an afternoon on the terrace will give you a glimpse of what it's really like to live in the principality.
Baccarat
For something slightly more elegant from Monaco's neighbor to the east, try Baccarat, which places an emphasis on the cuisine, not of the nearby north, but of the island to the south: Sicily. The restaurant still serves up a mean risotto as well as excellent fish and seafood pastas and mains, but the antipasto is legendary- be sure to share it with your dining companions.
A Roca
If you still have a desire to try the native food of Monaco, try A Roca. It's nothing fancy: just a takeout place with local specialties like barbaguians, a sort of fried ravioli that is typical of the area. Pick one up as an afternoon snack as you mosey around Monte Carlo.
