Transportation To/From Nice Airport
Most visitors to the Cote d'Azur prefer to touch down at the Nice International Airport (NCE) because many of the popular holiday destinations in the French Riviera are easily accessible from Nice. Well, if you too choose to enter/leave the Cote d'Azur via NCE, here are the different modes of transport available.
Bus
There are frequent bus services to various key locations in the French Riviera - Monaco, Grasse, Cannes, Isola, Avignon, Frejus, Genoa, Menton etc. - during the greater part of the day. And if you arrive late at night (or in the wee hours of the morning), the Noctambus will be a much cheaper option (~1 Euro) compared to a taxi ride.
Automobile
Tourists who prefer this means of travel can choose between renting a car, taking a taxi, or something in between - an airport shuttle service which provides door-to-door transport to/from the airport in chauffeur-driven vehicles of the customers' choice.
Train
The St. Augustin train station is conveniently located near Terminal 1. However, a train ride isn't such a good idea if you're wrestling with heavy baggage or travelling with little children.
Walking
Those on a shoestring budget will be glad to know that travelling around Nice on foot isn't a problem at all! Walking along the bicycle path from the airport area and subsequently, the Promenade des Anglais, will take you to central Nice in an hour or so.
Ferry
Consider taking the ferry if you've planned a holiday in St. Tropez during the high season. At ~45 Euros (one way) and ~55 Euros (return), it is much more economical than going by car/taxi (260 - 300 Euros for a one way journey which takes just as long). The downside is that there's only one trip per day (at 9 a.m.).
Miscellaneous
Seasoned travelers who are seeking new and more interesting means of getting around Nice can rent bikes or inline skates upon arrival. And if you're heading down to Monaco, a helicopter ride would be a really exciting way to start your vacation.
Nice is a wonderful tourist center in itself, so if your flight to the French Riviera leads you to Nice Airport, don't take off to your destination straight away! It would be a real shame to land in this beautiful French city without checking out some of its local attractions.
